Motley Crue - The Dirt Movie

There was a teaser on Nikki's and Motley's Instagram stories yesterday. The Dirt will be on Netflix March 22. I'm rockin' out for my 51st this year because the movie comes out March 22 (on my birthday!).

Eddie Trunk notes that from what he's heard, it sticks closely to the book The Dirt, but the actual timeline (where they end, what plot points they highlight) are unknown by him. No doubt things that will be included will be Vince's car crash, his child dying, Nikki overdosing, Tommy's marriage to Heather and/or Pamela, the beginnings in L.A., living in a shitty house. It looks as thought them playing the Whiskey a-Go Go early on and Nikki being set on fire is in there. Where will it end? Trunk said maybe with the first breakup when Vince left but he's not sure.

It'll probably be like Bohemian Rhapsody, taking the beginning, then peppering in major turns and stories in their life, then ending with a big event. You can't fit everything into a movie, so you have to pick and choose, condense a timeline, etc. It's problematic for fans who think a movie is supposed to be a 100% reenactment documentary type thing. People complained about the Whitney movie, the Toni Braxton movie, the Bobby Brown movie, etc etc. Prince fans would rip a Prince movie because "he wasn't wearing this when that happened" or "his hair was parted on the other side" sorta shit. I hope they never make a Prince movie, ever.

But as far as Motley Crue, I'm ready. Crue fans - thoughts?!

She's not likely to be portrayed in the movie. She certainly isn't listed in the IMDB cast list (which looks mostly complete because even those uncredited in the movie are listed at this point). Nikki's bigger story is dying from an O.D., then coming back to life.

This should be epic but I'm sure many people will believe it's fiction because of the craziness. Can't wait to see how they portray David Lee Roth. Years ago, Val Kilmer was in talks to be Diamond Dave. The Ozzy scenes should be wild as well...

Christian Gehring (who has most recently been on the new ABC The Goldbergs spinoff Schooled) is playing David Lee Roth. Tony Cavalero (who was on a nice little show called Hart of Dixie a few years ago). Tony looks more like a Roth type, but he also has that 80s Ozzy nuance.

A soundtrack with four new songs will be released the same day as the movie. But the title track is out now.

It's not a documentary, it's a movie proper. But yeah, the song will be one of the four new songs on the soundtrack.

I doubt they're going to mention the infamous 1997 Greensboro Coliseum concert where Nikki used racial slurs and encouraged the crowd to attack a Black security guard.

For 65 years straight, the #1 genre in music, selling wise, was rock n' roll worldwide. Last year (2017) in June, it got de-crowned by hip hop. Hip hop is the #1 genre. It's hip hop - rock - country - pop or pop - country. ~ Pras

I get it. It's best to pretend the whole ugly incident never happened.

Here's your boy Nikki in his own words (courtesty of MTV):

"We're not going to play any more songs. You know why? Because this security a** hole in the front is punching you motherfuckers, and you deserve better

than that," Sixx yells from the stage in the footage.

"You're a big f***ing black man. You feel pretty good beating up a little girl. F*** you! You know what you motherf***ers? Kick this f***ing guy's ass. Kick this motherf***er's ass. There's more of you than there is of him.

"How's that feel you a** hole, you fucking nigger? Don't call me a f***ing racist man because then you are a f***ing nigger, because nobody treats another human being like that! Suck my d***!"

He's not my boy, nor am I pretending anything. I've seen the clip. Please don't try to assume what I believe or know. You'll fail every time. We've all said the N-word. It doesn't make Nikki a flaming racist. It makes him fucking stupid at the time. He did it for whatever reason that I cannot understand. It's the wrong thing to do at any time. Everyone agrees, even him, that it was wrong. Period.

But we're talking about the movie, not the Crue's lineage of outbursts. It's likely more recent years' events won't be included in the movie, if it follows the timeline of the book in any fashion. So - no, his nasty, racial outburst won't be in the movie.

3:24 mark it starts. He was out of line. I know he was probably trying to use the old trope where that word means shiftless or horrible people - but it's 201x. You just don't use it at all. I don't think he's a racist by default or goes around talking like that. It certainly doesn't excuse this incident. He should have sat down and talked to the guy later and apologized. (Maybe he did?)

i wonder did he ever refer to, or call Vanity a nigger too?

or, how about his homie Slash?

theyre both half black... im almost pissed off at myself for buying and reading Heroin Diaries...im shocked i didnt know abouth this...but of course the US media kept this quiet...but if a rapper like DMX or Busta Rhymes would have told security to "BEAT THAT CRACKER SECURITY GUARDS ASS!!", they would have been charged with lynching or inciting violence, and their career would have been over and it would have been reported in a never ending news cycle...

I thought about that, too. White folks love to drop the N-bomb when they think the definition has changed. In my youth, I used the "a" instead of "er" on the end, or "you don't have to be black to be a ni**er" bullshit. Then I grew up and realized how fucking ignorant I was back then. As far as Nikki, I believe he had a stupid moment like that. Everyone deserves a chance for redemption or forgiveness. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.

The movie was excellent. It did everything right that Bohemian Rhapsody did wrong. They went with reality instead of a sugar coated puff piece and weren't afraid to let themselves look like assholes. Lots of people who know nothing about the band will come away from this movie hating them for sure.

I loved the movie. Yesterday was my birthday, so it was a good birthday present. I went to Target to get the soundtrack. I refuse to watch Bohemian Rhapsody because of how they portrayed Freddie having AIDS and knowing about it during LiveAid. It's about 5 years too early for that.

Anyway, The Dirt touched on the bigger moments in the band's history, and kept the timeline going at a good pace. They broke the 4th wall a couple of times, which reminded me of I, Tonya. It worked, though. I'm glad they didn't concentrate on trying to recreate concert performances and stuck to the back stories. The Ozzy story was great to see, and that's what happened. Nikki noted how studios wanted them to water stuff (like that) down and they refused. Netflix told them, "Make your movie, whatever it is", and they did. The timeline element w/ Mick's hip replacement seemed out of nowhere, and the reasoning around it (their eventual reunion as a 4some again) wasn't touched on, although they did touch on Corabi's hiring quickly. That section seemed a tad jumbled, but it could still make sense. Mick's condition was noted early on, so the hip replacement made sense; almost like notes of his condition bookended a stretch of time.

Machine Gun Kelly as Tommy Lee - he nailed it. Tommy's walk, his head movements, solid. Mick came across as a total crank, but he probably is in real life to some extent. Him being older gave him a different perspective, but for some reason he stuck with the kids in the band. He was a crank, but he wasn't stupid. I wish they had delved just a tad more into Nikki hiding in his closet, paranoid and high as fuck. They did show that, but I wanted deeper darkness to that. I thought one of the voices on the answering machine would be Vanity, but I never heard her name anyway. The Nikki & Vince characters were good but sort of paled in comparison to Tommy's over the top personality.

I do have to say, some of the wigs were not great on the actors. But then again, hair wasn't great in the 80s.

That opening shot, though! You know you're in for a ride with that opening sequence before the title card goes up. (Don't spoil it.)

I'm not sure non-fans would hate them. People aren't oblivious to a rock band's antics.

I felt bad about Nikki's parents. What a bunch of assholes. It's a glaring juxtaposition to Tommy coming from a more stable home. Skylar's sickness was a tough sequence, too. Vince must have felt like life was kicking his ass during all that time. And frankly, it probably was to some extent. They all had their ass kicked: Nikki with dying, Tommy with his bullshit, Mick w/ his condition, and Vince with Skylar's death.

This experience will cover courtship, sex, commitment, fetishes, loneliness, vindication, love, and hate.
