Favorite Queen albums

Inspired by the massive success of the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, I have been playing a lot of my old Queen CDs lately. Although Prince is my all time favorite musical artist, Queen in the 70s and the Beatles in the 60s are my 2nd and 3rd favorites, respectively. Much like Prince, Queen had a series of great albums from Queen II to Day at the Races though others could convincing argue to include News of the World. For me, I love all the four albums below and it is hard for me to rate them in order. For now, I would place them this way:

1. Queen II - This is the album that hooked me into Queen, so it will always have that special something that goes with a first love. It came out in an especially hard for me (10th grade, ugh), but I could always look forward to coming home and laying in my bed blasting Queen II through my headphones. I still think it is the best headphone music ever!

2. Sheer Heart Attack - Perhaps still influenced by my adolescent haze, this was such a brilliant album. As in Queen II, the transtions between songs and the mind-blowing shifts in styles are more captivating than I have heard any other band do.

3. Days at the Races - I didn't buy this right way due to the poor press it was receiving. I was too young to know that you can't always believe the critics. Any way, my lift partner turned me on to this and I have got to say it is an amazing album to listen to when you are falling in love with someone. It is so romantic, so I definietly fell for it (and my partner) hookline and sinker.

4. Night at the Opera - No, I can't really put this at #4 but don't know where else to put it. I know it is probably one of the most overplayed songs ever, but Bohemian Rhapsody captures every thing I love about Queen (i.e., creative, extreme style shifts all done with such flair, over the top vocals, ane fun). The rest of the album ain't bad either lol .

Now that I place them this way, I am already to switch their positions. I even imagine putting Queen II as my 4th favorite.

Given that I am truly at a loss in my own OP, I need your help. What are your favorite Queen albums? Are you, unlike me, able to have an order of preference?

To each his own. Curious about what it is about Hot Space that makes it stand out so positively for you?

Night At The Opera has by far my favorite Queen songs:

Youre My Best Friend
Sweet Lady
39
Bohemian Rhapsody
The Phophets Song (the acapella overdubs always made me think Prince's song "For You", was influenced by the first half this Queen song)

I was absolutely obsessed with Queen when I was younger. My Dad and I went to the local library so I could loan the new Adam and the ants lp (Prince Charming) they didn't have a copy so he suggested I loan the new Queen Greatest Hits lp instead... Life changing moment for me!! From that point until Freddie died there was no one else I would entertain. I remember my Dad saying to me when I was about 15/16 that I had to listen to other music too, that there were other great artists out there, I replied that I didn't need to because Queen had it all covered, they could play all styles! It was infact Freddie's death that lead me to Prince, it left such a big hole in my life, and I had to find something or someone to fill it, then I heard "My Name is Prince" on the radio... Anyway, short answer, favourite Queen albums? For me, Sheer Heart Attack - News of the World - Jazz - The Game 😎

Made in Heaven is My favourite Queen album. I have 3 friends that are also fans of Queen, and this is their favourite album too.
.
The eponym track and Motherlove are such powerful songs when it's played loud and when you re drunk.
.
I had the chance to play with the multitracks for hours of these songs in their studio in Montreux two years ago.
.
I was shocked to see that, among all the Queen hits, they chose these very two songs that weren't even singles, for the audience to play with!

Interesting we have the same two musical influences in our youth despite getting initiated to them at different points of their career.

I need to check these out. Pretty amazing given how many of their other songs are so much more well known.

Another vote for Hot Space. Staying Power, Dancer, Back Chat, Calling All Girls, Las Palabras, Cool Cat, Under Pressure...are you kidding me? That album was the bomb!

Closely followed by The Miracle and Made in Heaven!

I honestly am so surprised by the love for Hot Space that I played it for the first time in decades last night. Sorry to say I still don't like it, though I do like a couple of songs. The ealy albums vs. those after The Game are very different so I can see how they would appeal to different folks. I also wonder about if the age one discovers Queen (or any fan) being a factor as well. I am old enough that my high school days were all about their first four albums. There is a "kind of magic" that come with your favorite music at that age. Were the Hot Space folks still in their teens when it came out?

1) Innuendo (the other fella described it well) ..might not have the fullest mix but it was the band in rare form back to its amazingnessness. (Delilah included. It's a glorious fun sweet tribute to a pet that brought a dying man unbridled joy and pissy annoyance; the demo : "you make me smile when I'm just about to die-e-e)

A put on in the face of problems much like Slightly mad. Bijou is incredibly beautiful even if employed from Jeff beck.

ANATO - it's surely overplayed I guess but nowhere else did they employ SO MUCH to such heights (excluding Sweet Lady which kinda sucks IMHO)

Prophets song is simply powerful and progish at its damnedest
♫"Trollin, Trolling! We could have fun just trollin'!"♫

Queen were an essential part of my musical childhood, and I was absoluteley in love with them up until Hot Space. The Works was the last album I purchased and it was meehhh....

afterwards I'd say they never really became awfully bad, even though they tried their "best" lol with bland slick shit I never could get into, except the occasional song here and there. the old magic was gone, at least for me, and I never puchased another full album

so if I rank their earlier releases I'd say this:

4 Hot Space
3 The Game (for nostalgic reasons mainly)
2 Jazz
1 Night At The Opera

didn't include Greatest Hits or Live Killers, but the latter is probably the album I listened to the most back in the days, and yes I know the critics slammed it back then. fuck'em flip u smile
