This thread can't be complete without Marilyn Manson's magnificently titled song "I Don't Like The Drugs (But The Drugs Like Me)":

Prince may have wanted to be free without a margarita or ecstacy, but the "reality" is that rock & roll wouldn't be what it is without mind altering substances. So let's list as many songs about being "out there" as we can! Here's a few to start with: Bob Dylan: Rainy Day Women # 12 & 35 JJ Cale: Cocaine The Rolling Stones: Brown Sugar This is just a start! C'mon people!

i think that one's about something else (equally addictive though it may be).

Sorry if some of these were mentioned already.

Needle in the Hay - Elliot Smith

Bag of Gear - Tommy KD

Heroin - Velvet Underground

Sickman - Alice in Chains

Junkhead - Alice in Chains

God Smack - Alice in Chains (a lot of the Dirt album is a hateful ode to heroin)

Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Carmelita - Warren Zevon

For 65 years straight, the #1 genre in music, selling wise, was rock n' roll worldwide. Last year (2017) in June, it got de-crowned by hip hop. Hip hop is the #1 genre. It's hip hop - rock - country - pop or pop - country. ~ Pras

The Rolling Stones: Brown Sugar

Not about drugs. Rather, interracial sex against the backdrop of the slave trade.

Lyrics:
Gold Coast slave ship bound for cotton fields
Sold in the market down in New Orleans
Scarred old slaver knows he's doin' all right
Hear him whip the women just around midnight

Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good
Brown Sugar, just like a young girl should
Drums beatin' cold, English blood runs hot

Lady of the house wonderin' when it's gonna stop
House boy knows that he's doin' all right
You should have heard him just around midnight

Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good
Brown Sugar, just like a young girl should
Brown Sugar, how come you dance so good
Brown Sugar, just like a black girl should

I bet your mama was a Cajun Queen,
And all her boyfriends were sweet sixteen
I'm no school boy but I know what I like
You should have heard them just around midnight
Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good
Brown Sugar, just like a black girl should

Ive always thought Prince should've made some druggie music back in the day. Ever since he died of an od I always thought it was wasted effort constantly pushing this 'anti drugs/alcohol' theme he pushed for decades. nobody would've judged him for making an album on acid or a smoker anthem. And yeah I know i'm implying he really did dabble at his peak.

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2

The second verse of that song is about my fraternity's initiation ritual (I was in the same national frat as these guys). In fact, some of the guys in the band got kicked out of our fraternity for this song.
