The question is will Beyonce be a legend? And the answer to that is no. Now, will she be marketed as a legend, probably so.... but that still technically does not make her a legend. You need CLASSICS and CLASSIC albums to be a legend period. How are you going to be a legend if no one knows none of your songs or if your songs won't be playing 50 years from now? How are you going to be a legend if none of your songs made a impact on people? Not to mention, she has not made a massive significant impact or innovation to the music industry. While marginally talented, she is all hype. You can get any black girl who professionally dances, put a blond weave on her, do her face up and give her a skimpy outfit and get her to do Beyonce's act and some can do it better. What she does is not original or groundbreaking. Her success is a fluke and undeserving. The industry will market her as a legend but she will not be amongst the general public.

Beyonce might do it with accolades, but what about this one? She might make it on reputation. And if she could just get a real songwriter to write some stuff for her...

I don't think there's been any clip of Fantasia singing longer than 90 seconds that hasn't brought me to tears. She's an amazing vocalist and this video proves just how diverse she is. What a gift she is to have our ears enjoy!

Well he actually has mentioned that he would like to work with her, along with Rihanna, Lady Gaga and others. I remember him once saying that he'd be willing to get in the studio with anyone lol. Bruno is so nice and humble and anyone he decides to collaborate is strictly out of his love of creating music wink

Whew, thanks for saying it for me lol Good nite wink EDIT: Also gonna add that Bruno is probably savvy enough to know the best way to get your name out there is to latch on to a person who is already oversaturing the market. It's show business after all smile

grudgingly admits, yes, she will be rolleyes . Whether deservingly so or not, she will. Daddy made sure of that years ago. She doesn't have to change her formula and will further cement her place. Unfortunately, that's one of her main problems...success. I'd love to see her dig deeper though. You would think, after so many hits and years of success, she'd be more willing to take chances. But when your music career is so tied up in your endorsement deals, etc. I guess it makes it hard to venture out and try new things. She's such a proud product at this stage, can't see her doing that yet.

Releasing an album ('Beyonce') with zero notice and a video for every song was taking a chance though, especially after 4 flopped hard.

-

What up Cinny! I was primarily speaking of musically. The surprise album drop was a good move on her part, I don't deny that. She got more attention by releasing it that way than she probably would have the conventional way with a lead single and album to follow several weeks later. Although "Drunk In Love" could technically be considered the official lead single imo.

-

To be honest, I think the whole surprise drop might have birthed from "4" failing to have a obvious lead single to catch on with the general public (especially on the Pop side). I remember everyone stating how it seems like they (her team/label) were throwing songs against the wall to see which one stuck.

If so then B is too.

Now Ciara on the other hand...

Janet is most definitely a Legend. Beyonce will be too. I'm not a fan of Beyonce, but she is truly the best artist these kids got nowadays. Its sad really. I'm so glad that I got to grow up on Mj, Janet, and Whitney!

It wasn't taking a chance. That release was VERY carefully planned a calculated. The day the album was released, it was all over the news, all media outlets and social media. People were downloading it strictly based on all of the hype. It worked out great! She and her people would have never done it if they weren't absolutely sure it was going to work. Beyonce is surrounded by very smart, seasoned people.

When she was getting artist of the milennium, I was not for the idea at all and felt it was a bought award cause I still felt she had to earn it though felt she was on her way and the award seemed contrived. Artist of the decade would have been deserving. The 4 album wasn't even out yet. 4 ended up being one of her most consistent and underrated albums if you ask me, but it would have been more genuine to let the music speak for itself first if you ask me and letting the public decide if it's a good album. The current one is well done and I love the music videos, but I don't know if it's excellent as 4 though creative. I mainly like it cause it reminds me of 90's r&b and hip hop music with her own twist to it. I think I see her becoming one now more than before though I knew she would continue to do great things. I don't know how many songs will actually be remembered at this point but a lot will be.

As always, that's for the young listeners to decide when they are older. For those listeners, Beyonce will be a part of their childhood, teen years and/or early adulthood. They'll pass the final verdict.

Most listeners over the age of 30 now, won't have a real say.

No No No dropped in my high school years, and the rest was history. I thought they would disappear like Allure and other girl groups, but then they dropped Writings, their best album and eclipsed TLC fame too, great year for girl groups and r&b music. I said in another thread about Usher it's hard to label people around my age with icon, legend etc. stuff like that, as I feel I could have gone to school with these people that had their dreams of getting into music come true with their hard work and talent, cause we were all teenagers at the same time and listened to/looked up to the same people musically. It was nice seeing a singer around my age stan for mj like that and citing him as her inspiration having her dreams come true, even if she had a lot of struggles or even if she is not everyone's cup of tea, overexposed sometimes etc.

Really the only act from the current generation I can see being deemed a "legend" is Eminem (i'm not even a big eminem fan) but he was the biggest selling artist of the 2000's, and is still very relevant in the industry today. His music videos in my opinion are great too, they have their own little unique style. and in my opinion, Bjork, Eminem, Daft Punk, and many others should have been a contender for the MJ Video Vanguard Award before Beyonce was ever even considered.)

Yeah they deserve it too, but they usually give those awards out when the artist is promoting something. Even when mj and janet got their vanguard ones, they were promoting albums.

True. Kind of makes me feel like they could have given in to Prince (considering he is promoting 2 albums right now) I wonder how P would feel about getting an award with MJ's name attached to it lol

Michael Jackson and Janet received the award because their music videos impacted and changed the MTV video culture. They did not get the award because they were promoting an album. They earned the award whether they was promoting an album or not. Britney, Justin nor Beyonce did not deserve the award period. They could have given the award to Missy Elliott or Bjork people who actually made creative music videos. Shoot, they could have given it to Eminem who at least switches his videos up with themes and story plots. I thought Stan was a clever creative video.
