Yes original CB or DF could be separate releases later on for record day or something(?)

Camille
Dream Factory
Crystal Ball
(and the numerous planned and shelved live album releases) could be great Record Store Day releases, i think most of these releases have completed or conceptual artwork they could use.
Or, because these sessions overlap and the tracks were reused for these albums, even a boxset with Camille, Dream Factory and Crystal Ball with a massive booklet with all artwork and notes from The Revolution, engibeers and whoever was around these recordings.

They could even do a Record Store Day release for 3 years:

Year 1: Dream Factory LP
Year 2: Camille LP
Year 3: Crystal Ball LP

and then a year later a CD boxset as I said above.

I don;t get why they don't use Record Store Day to release Live albums like alot of artists do.

I respect your take. This is all of course my own wish list. They will do whatever is most commercially viable.

But if I ran the world (which I don't at all), I would probably release a whole other project called Dream Factory that had the overlapped SOTT/Parade songs alongside outtakes, likely in the final iteration Prince put together before he scrapped it. It would be wonderful for the world to imagine the Dream Factory as its own alternate universe album. The Parade Deluxe, imo, should be much more focused on the intense collaborative spirit he had, being the final Revolution album. If all this means two different releases with All My Dreams on them, so be it.

Most of all, I just want these Deluxe editions to enhance the album that is there, not to truncate or superficially touch upon whole other projects that were conceived. There's too much of a rich, sequential history here to curate which handful of songs belong on these Deluxe editions. If Prince was like Shakespare of pop music in the 80s, these are like different folios and quatros of his albums that deserve their own context. Just my two cents.

[Edited 6/1/20 19:28pm]

You make some good points.

I think my main concern is that a release of Dream Factory would be a doubling up of releasing already issued material since many of the versions of songs (with the exception of Strange Relationship) that were later released on SOTT are likely not all that different.

If memory serves, the 1999 Super Deluxe vault tracks took into account the material recorded between the completion of Controversy and final configuration of 1999. If they were to do the same here, that would include a fair amount of Revolution input given that Parade was out March 1986 and the Revolution didn't disband until later that October.

In any event, I look forward to whatever comes out and appreciate your thoughts and views.

I know I am beating a dead horse.

But if the estate would also include a blu ray similar to how the band Yes, does as a super edition with all audio and video from the sets, but they could also:

Have all 3 configs of dream factory, crystal ball, camille, etc. and repeat as many songs because the format is allows huge storage.

Music is the best...

Some of my predictions and feelings about this release, in no way intended as definitive or disrespectful to anyone else's views:

1. If Joy In Repetition is on this release it will segue in from The Ball, leaving most fans (including me) still dreaming of a standalone version with the intro intact.
2. The tracks on Crystal Ball 1998 from this era will probably either be repeated on this release or held back for Parade Deluxe, depending on recording dates. Otherwise some fans will feel that the deluxe packages don't offer a complete overview of the music from these periods. Maybe they will use different versions where they are available. Personally I would welcome this, as these tracks are presented so badly on Crystal Ball with horrible LOUDNESS levels and editing (such as the bassline from Jam Of The Year at the beginning of Movie Star).
3. Wally will not be included in this set. This will break my heart, but I just have a feeling there will be complications about releasing it.
4. The liner notes will talk about Susan Rogers thinking Adonis & Bathsheba was corny.
5. I still won't have everything I need to put together a decent-sounding playlist that replicates the 'Crucial' bootleg.

That Crucial bootleg was a great album. I too would recreate it if all the tracks were available in excellent quality.

My fear is Cosmic Day will be left off due to it's musical similarities to George Harrison's What is Life.

No, because CB is the definitive version of S☮️TT. This release should be called Crystal Ball: Original Configuration. And wouldn't be a damn separate release.

A download-code for special extra-material

(like different mixes, extended that didin't fit in -

plus the Dream Factory, Crystal Ball and Camille configurations)

would be nice. In Flac of course.

Regarding Wally. From what I was told.

1) Studio version. Deleted but a cassette was made. Unknown if cassette still exists.
2) Piano demo version. Cassette was taped over for...
3) (the mixdown of) Studio version #2. Horns added. This is the one that leaked but it only leaked in mono.

If Wally #1 still exists, you would have to imagine that they will make a big deal out of including it. But if not Wally #2 would still be cool to have in the best quality possible.

Regardless of what version is included (if it is included at all), hopefully the song will click for me this time around. I wasn't blown away whenever it made the rounds a few years ago, it didn't at all live up to the hype of being some "lost masterpiece" that everyone was dying to hear

The sound quality was pretty poor on the leaked Wally. I think it will be appreciated more if made available from the Vault.

The song is very good but it could never live up to expectations. Plus I don't Trust Susan Roger's opinion after she slated the marvellous Adonis and Bathsheba.

Wally is definitely, definitely going to be on the set... but the leaked version is really nothing special in my opinion. that's probably mostly down to the quality, but even so.

now if they have a copy of the original recording, that would be something.

Someone played the leaked version for Susan Rogers and she said she thought that was an even later 3rd version.

And the things she has said about it over the years indicated that there was different lyrical content to the song she recorded. She mentioned him asking to borrow some money because his girl took it all and then that he changes his mind and gives the money back... which is not in the leaked cut. (in the leaked song he only mention he would have given her all his money --he also before giving it to uncle sam--he also mentioned Uncle Sam in "Big Tall Wall" which was also about Sussana leaving him)

I wonder if she gushed over that song so much because she assumed it would never come out?

EDIT: also remember how different the 2 known versions of "Old Friends 4 Sale" are. I can hardly stand the released one but the other is one of my favorites!

Why bother "preserving" the 2 disc spread for the album itself? Seems like a weird choice in 2020.

Obviously there's no need to include the Crystal Ball album. That would be a LOT of repetition with SOTT, and I think WB knows that. The seven tracks that were cut when it went from a triple to a double will surely be on one of the vault discs.

That being said, I would like it if one of the vault discs was the final Dream Factory. Yes, some repetition there, but it works so well as an album, the next Revolution album following Parade.

This is going to go great with Duane Tudahl's next book...

Honestly, I want this project to be called Crystal Ball: Original configuration. This was his vision and he would've done it. But the executives was the last obstacle to the greatest album of the 80's and maybe of all time. S☮️TT was an afterthought. Disappointing really when you think about what could have been.

Can't do that, because they want people who loved SOTT to instantly recognize it & buy it. Calling it Crystal Ball would eliminate a lot of those potential casual buyers. Price point will do that as well.

I just finished listening to the original Crystal Ball configuration for the first time, and I think the record execs were right on some level.

They wanted a record that would sell in the same ballpark as Purple Rain. That's why you see all the second guessing & false releases that started happening at this point in his career. Before it was anything goes & question nothing, after ATWIAD & Parade didn't live up to expectations they started trying to steer him more.

If you put out a triple album in 1987, sales will be lower.

Also after listening, & while I love any configuration with more tracks, it feels more disjointed, long & a bit all over the place.

It sure will be on the deluxe release.

If not, they make a huge mistake.

...talking about fade-outs...

I'm not a technician or musicianbut,

How do fade outs work/occur ?

I can understand it also has something to do with album/CD lenghts etc,

or choices made by the artists...

If there are musicians here,

how does a recorded track ends normally before the decision is made of a fade-out ?

Do tracks actually 'end' in a studio as 'written' or 'composed'?... and then choose to fade or not ?

Difficult to explain... know what i mean ?

Always wondered how that comes about ?
