I am liking the single edit and the video.

It was really weird seeing Prince again!

Oddly the animator has made the woman look like her head has turned 180 degrees on her neck - creepy!!

But why oh why has someone purposely added old video drop-out to this animation - nutters!

lol

I think I prefer the single edit cuz the album version is a bit too long smile The animated video is cool and maybe it's better like this rather than using rehearsal footage that doesn't fit the song.

It looks cool, reminds me of early 90s cartoons. The way it flows feels like it's something made to be screened at clubs or something. I like it!

Really didn't think the Estate could disappoint me any further after the butchering of the "Originals" tracks (for fucks sake, some of those weren't even his original, fully fleshed versions).
This video has not only set the bar lower for standards and quality for the Estate material soon to be shat out, but quite frankly instills a fear for his legacy, though as if that fear didn't already exist (and just a fear of that goddamn thumbnail... Looks like a shite Ken doll with some purple sharpie on it).
In other words, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined smile

And I thought I was too harsh on the estate. Sheesh

I mean... It's all true... That thumbnail really is ugly.

The trampling over and the mess they are making of his legacy is what is upsetting me. The versions of the songs they used in Originals were often not the best versions which shows they don't really know his material. They also fucked around with the mixing and adding echo etc. I also expected them to be sensitive to the views he actually expressed in his lifetime. He didn't want holograms of himself so why the hell would he want private rehearsal videos released and corny cartoons made of him when tnere are hundreds of fully completed projects in the vault?! What next a Purple Rain remix with wil.i.am?

The only think that we can reasonably postulate about what he did or didn’t want done with his art after his death is that he didn’t give a fuck! He as much as told us so by NOT having a will so all this “he would have wanted this and he wouldn’t have wanted that” is not about Prince, it’s about you and others who try the same thing. And you’re not a factor in any of it.

^ That's assuming he didn't leave a will. A lot of his closest collaborators and lovers insist he did have one, so what was done with it?!?! VERY CONVENIENT for a certain record company.

A cursory understanding of Prince and his career would clearly show you this is not in keeping with views clearly expressed in his lifetime. Don't you think his legacy deserves a lot better than these rush releases? Wouldn't you prefer a 4 CD box set per album than souped up unfinished demos released as if they were a complete album?!

Looks like some ish the Heavy D Estate would put out. Not something from an artist who left a vault full of great material.

The clip was fun. I liked how it was basic, letting the song shine. The filmation-like quality was reminiscent of the 80's, even scrolling to the left like eye wish u heaven. It was like havin him back for a second...

I’ll say it again but slowly so that it sinks in. You ready?

Original. Wasn’t. A. Rush. Job. It. Was. Two. Years. In. The. Making!

Now, what I would prefer is just as irrelevant as what you’d prefer and our preferences are just as irrelevant now as what they were when Prince was alive and people were bitching then about what he should and shouldn’t do.

If you don’t like the video, don’t watch it. It’s a win win. 👍

I like the video, I think it’s fun. The raspberry beret cartoon favored him even less and he had some control over that, so the likeness doesn’t really bother me too much. My daughter loves the video and continued singing Rock rock holly rock when it was over, so I think it was a success.

Same with my 11 year old nephew, he was mesmerised and singing it in the car all the way to his grandmothers.

Great point about Raspberry Beret and as for not liking cartoon videos, MPLS anyone?

I agree 1000%. I couldn't even watch it all the way through. Exactly the thing Prince would have hated. Just awful.

And considering Nikos was given another 60 or so songs at the time to master, there could be a lot more Originals coming our way. Hopefully he will get the hint by the time the next release comes out and stop drowning Prince's voice in reverb/echo.

It's kinda cute. Better than just a straight lyric video. If I had to picky, and I am because I'm a Prince fan, some of the hairdo/outfit combos aren't accurate, and one of those hairdos Prince didn't even have. But they're small criticisms I guess. I'm more upset that so much of you lot don't like Holly Rock! Fuck's wrong with you!?
