Here's another unboxing video for the deluxe edition.

I notice he comments on the CD not being held in very well, right before he drops it. This is what turned me off the most about the deluxe version.

He's also wrong when he says there is NOTHING with the CD in the CD only version, there is a booklet, it just does not include the liner notes.

[Edited 9/22/18 7:26am]

In the video he actually damages the CD holder when he is showing it. These packages were not meant to be manhandled like that. When he goes back and put s the CD back in you can actually see how he damaged the packaging and the CD slips into the cardboard edge. The package is actually well made. Just an explanation, not trying to change any minds.

Strange to call it Deluxe though when it isn’t, regardless of this being the release (don’t get me started on that!).

What makes something a deluxe release?

It costs more.

This is a release for hardcore fans. But, if they want to do that, then give us a 7CD or DVD set of the 2002 Celebration or many other releases that hard core fans would have appreciated much more than this. The general public will have almost no interest in this and this is not likely to generate any new interest. I would hate to think that WB is purposefully devaluing the value of the vault in order to achieve leverage in the future, but it sure seems like it.

It'll come.

I want to see the live shows across several different eras, particularly the 90's on.

Also would really love to see the footage that Kevin Smith shot if it's as strange as Smith made it out to be.

Why is everyone such a complainer around here? If they came out with an album with Prince playing the kazoo, I would buy it. This album is beautiful. Im just happy something like this is available. Luv 4 One another, bitchers!

Seems to be what we do. How long you been here?

I distinctly remember hundreds of orgers over the years clamoring for a stripped down, intimate, acoustic demo-ish sort of sound and now everyone's freaking out. It's pretty funny.

I want a funk/rock/experimental smorgasboard plus a serious collection of live stuff. Reasonably certain it will come.

It does suck to not get the liner notes in the CD. As a liner note junky, I miss the days when they were the norm.

But I prefer the individual CD & LP releases, and I am NOT going to buy 3 copies... Not. Happening.

If I get lucky and find pirated scans of the booklet online I'll grab them without feeling an ounce of guilt. The liner notes should be in every edition, fk whoever made the decision to make them exclusive to the deluxe edition only. Just sayin'...

Totally. It's a shitty move, and I didn't realise that the liner notes were exclusive to the deluxe version when I ordered the CD. The Estate are becoming quite adept at taking the piss...

This guy isn't really treating his new Deluxe Edition very well, is he? There's another unboxing video on YouTube where the CD section is intact -- that is to say, the CD doesn't fall between the layers of paper. It still does fall out quite easily though.

I love my deluxe, it is sitting on an easel that was made from an old Italian wine barrell right now

the cd fits perfectly. I'm buying the $9.99 single cd tomorrow so I don't have to use the other.

I didn't preorder it online because I thought it would be everywhere.

I wanted the deluxe version, even though I didn't think there was enough to it to justify the higher cost.

My first choice of record stores didn't get the deluxe version at all, and they said it was out of stock from their distributor when they checked on ordering it. I went to two other record stores on Friday, and they had both sold out of the deluxe version (though they still had standard versions).

On Saturday, I went to another record store, fully expecting to be let down again, but to my surprise they had ONE copy left of the deluxe edition left, and I bought it.

I know I overpaid a bit, but I don't mind. I like the heavier cover, I wanted the booklet (though I agree it should be in all editions), and I'm not worried about the CD falling out. Handled appropriately, the packaging will be fine.

I'm also glad to have this music. I've never had the bootleg. I do hope we get some of the music he actually finished and put in the vault soon, and this won't be the first Prince music I reach for in the future, but this intimate release is impressive and moving in context.

He has finished albums that are great but they give us a demo cassette that they found? I want it, but there is so much more. They need a fan advisory board because the decisions they make are terrible.

Totally agree.

Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

So, anybody get their pre-order yet?

I didn't order it, preferring to instead support my local independent wrecka stow tomorrow by buying it in person on 0-day as I have with every release sold in stores starting with Purple Rain.

As I look at the prices and pictures online, I see my options in store are:

the CD alone, they don't have the price up for this one yet

the LP alone, they list this one as $21.98

the combo, they have it for $38.98

Looking at the pictures, it looks like the combo does not have a separate digipack for the CD, or cover for the LP, I'm guessing they might be housed in the booklet?

To be honest, I'm thinking I would rather have a separate cases for the CD & LP for filing on my shelves than a "photo book" that I don't expect to be impressed by. It'll probably be cheaper to buy them separately without the book too.

If anybody has it yet, please post some photos of how the discs are housed in the booklet.

I got it last Friday.

The combo does not have a digipack for the CD. The whole thing opens like a book with a slot for the CD on the right side and the LP in a "sleeve within a sleeve" on the left side, which also contains the booklet and an LP-sized photo on heavy stock.

It is my understanding that the only way to get the booklet and photo is in the deluxe edition. So if you want those, this is what you have to buy.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
