That is such a very lovely article!

It's a little odd Prince destroyed so many properties.

I didn't realise Prince's estate administrators are liquidating his assets by selling off his properties.

Thank you!

lol

Here is the video produced by The Current entitled "Prince's purple house site: New owners settle in".

"The Current's Jay Gabler visits the former site of Prince's purple house and home recording studio on Lake Riley in Chanhassen, Minn. New owners John and Tonia Roemer are building a house for their family — and yes, they're saving Prince's gate.

Video: Hanna Bubser and Jay Gabler
Thanks to Johnny Vince Evans for audio assistance"

He kept the property he owned locally in Minnesota. He did list the Dakota Ave home but it just recently sold.
I understand why he razed the two homes.
.
Imagine the security he'd have needed to guard empty homes.
Land was his investment.

Yes, it was almost one of the first orders of business. They needed cash to pay some large looming taxes.

I never really understood why he razed not just one but two homes. You´re saying that the security for both homes would´ve cost too much but those houses were probably worth a couple of millions. How does it make sense to just keep the land and raze the houses? Does it have anything to do with the taxes being too high? I just don´t understand it.

He razed one of the homes that he and Mani lived in, when they were going thru the divorce.

I doubt very much that his razing of them was anything to do with the cost of upkeep etc - my feeling (based on what we know of Prince and his ways) is that destroying them was an attempt to delete any unpleasant things that took place there.

.
I am guessing that their being razed to the ground was a form of spiritual cleansing...Plus, given what we know of his dealings with Manuella as their divorce progressed, I don't think he was above being a bit 'Old Testament' sometimes... wink biggrin

It's great to know that Prince fans bought the property because they really seem to care. Thanks for sharing.

The houses were not million-dollar homes.
The purple house on Kiowa was a typical split level.
He bought the Galpib home from someone else who's built it. It was actually modest for a millionaire rock star.
Both properties gave him privacy.
Do you really think he wanted people poking around two vacant houses?
He was done with them. He had lived with two wives in the Galpin home.
Better to tear them down than deal with them.
He was superstitious.
His dad died in the Kiowa house. Two failed marriages on Galpin.
He washed his hands of it all.

I agree with you I think both homes represented some unpleasant chapters in his life so he got rid of the homes for maybe a fresh start. Funny I always heard the same thing that Prince was superstitious.

Speaking of superstition, I guess that is why posted, "Just When You Thought It Was Safe" days or was it weeks before he passed...

So interesting, Asta. Really a haunting statement to put out there - and be the receiver of, so many meanings and cross-currents.

I can see why Prince loved Chanhassen so much; it is very beautiful and peaceful there. So nice the new owner's kept the gate there as it was. I would have done the same.
