Spike Lee was Prince's contemporary and friend. Remember going to see Purple Rain and Do the Right Thing like it was yesterday. Very exciting time to be young and love art. Spike is obviously missing his brother on the daily. This does a lot to bring his enormous following to the Prince table if they weren't there already.

Brand new boogie without the hero.

Spike was born in 1957, Prince in 1958. Incredibly talented black male contemporaries. The same times informed their art. Many of the same issues getting their art made and distributed the way they wanted it. I'm sure you know Prince gave Spike beaucoup $$$ to finish the movie Malcolm X - a movie about Religion & Politics, hmmmm.

Brand new boogie without the hero.

outside of age frame, I don't think the definition of contemporary fits them really, Spike was a film producer Prince a musician(who starred in a few films) ... Prince's films were hardly in the same subject matter as Spikes. . . but that is up to debate. U say tomato I say tomato

.

that last part i'm going to address, because U didn't have to bring it up
.
How was Malcolm X the movie about politics... seriously. Of course we live in a world that is governed by politics of various sorts. There are laws and such that we all have to follow ie politics. But Prince giving Spike money to help him finish the movie doesn't mean Prince was into politics. And Prince was not a Jehovah's Witness in 1992

I watched the movie, that doesn't make me a Muslim or follower of the NOI. Malcolms life story is beyond that, which is why I watched it.

Prince and Spike were longtime friends and collaborators. P even contributed the title track, and indeed the entire musical lineup, to Spike's Girl Six soundtrack. They also shared a love of basketball and even attended some games together.

.

And, I'm going to pretend that you didn't even suggest that Malcolm X was not about politics. This is really starting to get embarrassing for the org.

That does not define a contemporary. friendship is not the same as contemporary.

Malcolm X was a biography of a mans life. Social issues, RELIGIOUS issues and government were a part of it course. The move was not a political movie.
What is embarrassing is you agreeing that "politics does not divide peole anymore than celebrating life does"

LOL That is what I said.
reply #16outside of age frame, I don't think the definition of contemporary fits them really

All that other stuff, reasons of film and issues is not correct. shared love of basketball is not a definitin of contemporary. In that case all those people sitting beside and behind him are contemporaries.

Now, who's making a strawman argument? Indeed, what is the original argument? And, how did this thread about Spike Lee's lovely and loving gesture of posting photos of Prince, his longtime friend, contemporary, and collaborator, turn into a debate in the first place?

(yes) Hopefully, Spike will continue to share his love for Prince by continuing to post Prince photos. Indeed, it would be great for the many that follow him to learn more about our beloved Prince.

Do you know what a strawman arguement is?
I replied to you, reminding you that in #16 I said Prince & Spike were contemporaries as far as age goes.

the other person equated being contemporaries with Prince & Spike sharing a love for basketball.

The strawman in the room here is - What do you have against Spike Lee?

-

Malcolm X was not political? Is this an alternative fact?

-

Really hope Spike doesn't read the org. This is truly embarassing. The thread is about him showing his obvious love and mourning for Prince.

I've addressed why... I've always enjoyed Spike Lee joints... move on with that.
