Yes. Self administered fetynal accidental overdose. They won't confirm if there were other drugs. It's the strongest opioid around according to them

Which makes me confused as to why he would have a bottle of percoset on his person in the elevator if he already self administered something else.

Remember folks, you can OD on just one pill. It's super easy to do. This doesn't mean he was shoving handfuls of pills down his throat but sustained use of narcotics will eventually catch up with you. And those patches make it even easier to do... Forget to take one off and add another... Tragic.

It's 2016, he should have been outfitted with a bionic hip, using surgery to do it with minimal invasiveness, and quick recovery time. However, THEY have decided and we are complacent in the idea that the money is in the TREATMENT and not the cure. Big Pharma is de'elevator... The money gets invested in the drugs for "treatment" and not the cure.

This needs to change. Write your politicians and tell them to say no to the big Pharma lobbyists- and yes to creating and enforcing regulations the encourage real solutions to problems like chronic pain and other diseases.

It's so in sensitive and it doesn't and should not taint our image of Prince because that does not mean he was a "druggie". Please understand that he had a very large dependency on these pills, and if brought fatality, it could have caused many issues.

I'm sure he was taking opioids to deal with something, and no, that absolutely does NOT make him a junkie. Unfortunately that's not how it's presented in the media. Especially since they are only running with half a story now. Hopefully the entire report comes out tomorrow so this can be over with.

My only question is why the official release of the full autopsy is taking so long. An overdose of a prescription drug in someone's bloodstream usually only takes hours to determine - not weeks.

No it doesn't. Postmortem toxicology takes weeks.

The toxicology report will detail prescription drugs, illegal drugs, alcohol and any other chemical substances which the toxicologist has been instructed to test for. It will usually take 6-8 weeks for the toxicology report to be completed. You can ask for a copy of this with the post-mortem report.

Some of y'all really need to stop. The whole "he couldn't have been an addict or have been taking pills, he's PRINCE!" attitude is exactly why so many celebrities don't seek help with their addictions. They already have the spotlight and pressure on them constantly, and to look like a failure or fallible to their "fans" can lead to them not seeking the treatment they need!

Very sad day all over again. But I will wait until the full report comes out. I've cried too many tears and screamed until I can't any more. Now I'm just mad at the disrespect they are showing towards a good man who blessed us with such wonderful art a 38 year career. Show me a person without some kind of issue going on no one is issue free. Yet miserable people will spread misery. No one ask question of why release this info before his birthday. Sorry for the vent.

Well put

The Doctor from CA is a leading expert in this particular therapy. He sent his son to MN with bupro with the intent of joining him and Prince in a day or two. In the meantime, Prince had been seen by a local MN doctor who was monitoring the situation. There wasn't an advantage in going to the Betty Ford clinic, other than merely being around other people. And, sad but true, Prince didn't want to be around other people. The plan Prince and his close friends/associates had was much better than just calling 911. Sadly, accidents happen sometimes.

what. you need to understand that when you reach a certain stage, these things are taken out of the hands of people who "don't want to be around other people". That when you "die" 3 or 4 days earlier, you lose your options of what you can and cannot do. If people didn't take this out of his hands and he ends up dead, there might be criminal charges. Let's just let every suicidal person or addict decide for themselves then what they want to do. This is tragic and unnecessary. If you care about someone who is an addict and is showing self destructive tendencies you watch them like a hawk. BEEN THERE.

They didn't have power of attorney over him. They couldn't force Prince to not be alone. How would they do that exactly? He owned Paisley Park. As his private property, he could have told everyone and anyone to GTFO. I'm not arguing about the morality or the ethics of any of this. I'm taking about the legality. Prince was legally entitled to make his own decisions about being alone. AND about leaving the hospital a few days prior to his death.

Also, under what laws would anyone be charged with a criminal offense here, other than if they illegally provided him with Percocet or controlled substances? What are we even talking about?

I am just so depressed. Each day that has passed, I feel very empty. I've just been eating a lot to cope. I know I've never met him but it is so tragic and he really meant a lot to me as he did all of us. It just hurts so badly.

I would just like to ask of those of you who are saying "it's not true, Prince was not a drug addict," to have some empathy for people who are drug addicts. Prince overdosing didn't make him a "druggie" and that's something to understand. Being a "druggie" and someone who has a dependency are one in the same but two very different things. Prince could have been using these for a short while or long while, it's unsure. It's just very unfair to deny the truth no matter how impartial and vague it is. That was the cause, now what we can and should do is propose question.

The WHY's are far more important than the delusional doubt. We should investigate and research as to why, how, where, from whom, mental health, physical health, Etc.

Just because he overdosed doesn't mean it stops there, that is just what they're linking it as now.

Please let us be rational and kind without rioting and picketing online because it's not very helpful. It is a very strange and bizarre situation that I believe us org family can try to figure out with tactic, sincerity, research, and fact.

Many hugs to all

Well now it means they can officially start charging people if there were others involved. And now unfortunately they are going to drag out all his personal business.

Maybe we will get lucky and whoever was involved will just plead guilty out of respect and not make it go to trial.
Surprise, surprise.

if prince truly died of an opioid overdose, then the provider of those opioids, the person who drove him to get them, and the people who left him alone after the plane emergency hold some sort of responsibility in this situation. Especially any medical personnel...this just doesn't happen. Sorry. I have too many people in my family who have experienced addiction problems, and when you are on these prescriptions or illegal substances people don't leave you alone like this. This story is so off, and now you claim a law enforcement official has leaked this info? Let's make sure we make this guy out to be an addict, ok? Someone who didn't profess to use drugs his whole life. The story is off people. Wake up, as they say. With a story this off the rails, and this much money involved, well.....

Posts like this really make zero sense.

There is one person responsible for Prince's decisions and that would be Prince. Regardless of how any prescriptions were attained...Prince decided to do attain them and ultimately take them. Others may have contributed and if it was by illegal means, they will be held accountable.

Prince being alone is because he wanted to be alone, not because people just abandoned him. He was surrounded by yes men and clearly that's the way he wanted it. No one can force themselves to be with him on his private property and no one can force someone to do what they do not wish to do.

By all accounts, it does appear that those closest to him were attempting to get him help - whether he wanted it or not is unknown at this time. That said, I'm pretty sure we'll find out that there were also enablers that contributed to this outcome...perhaps the same people.

Prince was anti-drug and appeared to be all about clean living but that doesn't mean the guy was against prescription drugs to treat ailments. It's ridiculous to assume otherwise.

The story completely adds up. This very sad, unfortunate story makes complete sense. You guys needs to stop claiming that there is some grand manipulative narrative to it all.

I think he might have engaged in doctor shopping, getting medications from more than one doctor for the same condition.

It truly hurts my heart to know if he just would have had hip surgery-maybe some of his pain would have gone away. It really bugs me that Jehovah Witness's don't allow blood transfusions-and that is why he didn't have it done. Do they allow pain killers??? All I can say at this moment-is if a Jehovah Witness knocks on my door you better run. I'm angry. This didn't need to happen. He was a healthy-good living man. He wasn't an addict- and NO HE DIDN"T HAVE AIDS (FOOLS!) He simply couldn't stand the pain-and when you are in pain-there is a very good chance that you take more than your body can handle.
When I found out that my friend passed away on April 21st, I was sitting at my real estate office working on a file- and now today I was in my real estate office submitting a "closed file" -and I got the news of how it happened. The final verdict.
I wish I could have been there in the last few months with you my friend-to notice what was happening and do something about it before it was too late. You never showed your pain- so no one knew that even though the rest of you was from a different universe-your body was human-and I really wish you would have confided in someone you could trust (like me your sister) and get the advice from someone that truly cared about you- to take care of your hurting hips. I wish I would have known. I'm so sorry. I miss you.

I fucking knew it wasn't just perc!!! Where in the hell did he get these drugs? The withdrawals and pain had to be so bad he was trying his best to make it all stop. Im sure he built a tolerance through years and bad to take more to get relief and then u have issues. Trust me the dose I take (after 10 back surgeries) would likely be lethal. GOD DANGIT!!!!!

Medical Examiner's Report

[Edited 6/2/16 12:07pm]

I'm not arguing with anyone! This was planned. He was either pumped up with this drug and murdered for his vault/estate or he is alive like Sly and retired.

Either way we will never know the truth now. I would like to see the Elevator video though.

His family better have that WILL in hand or WB is going to get it all!

This is so INCREDIBLY disrespectful to Prince himself.

You should be embarrassed and ashamed.
