We shouldn't judge Miss Tyka too harshly. Apparently, Flamin' Hot Cheetos have been scientifically proven to have an effect on the brain that's similar to cocaine. http://articles.chicagotr...-addiction It's not an addiction to the rush of tongue-burning orange-fingered excitement... It's a dependancy on the calming effects of ingesting 26 grams of fat, inbetween meals. Brit wit. Got it. Wrong time for it. . [Edited 5/13/16 15:29pm]

I suppose It's a heart vs head thing. Reality is.. it's whatever you feel. Either is ok. Yeah, we'll, we'll try to imagine what silence looks like.

Really. I did not consider Prince my family - or "like family" - ever. I felt a connection to him that was based purely on admiration for his creative spirit and relentless drive. I have never entertained notions that I would be with him or around him - on any level other than that admiration. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Who said anything about being with Prince? Girl Stop....nobody even mentioned that shit. If you didnt consider him family then so be it, but dont try to make others feel bad cuz we did.

nursev said: Seriously though, Im done with this. Prince is gone and bickering with folks on the Org is not happening Except that initially, you didn't say he was "like family." You said he WAS family. There's a pretty big difference between those things and that is what I reacted to - the idea that anyone here is on the same level as blood. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

agreed and there is nothing wrong with feeling like he was.

Nothing to be confused by. My mom was cremated, had no memorial or funeral (her request--government agencies were informed, but she didn't even want her obituary in the paper). I went back to my home town to pick up the ashes about a week later, and that was it. There was a time, the night after she died, when all the family was together and talked and cried and stuff, but it wasn't a funeral or a memorial. That's what happened here--a bunch of friends went to Minneapolis, and they spent some time reminiscing and reconnecting. It happened because Prince died, but it was not a funeral or a memorial service.
Tyka says there will be an official memorial--but that doesn't preclude everybody else grieving the loss/celebrating the life anyway they want. Just that she's not going to be attending them, and having done my share of grieving my own personal losses, I can't say I blame her. Many outsiders (and that's what we are--with a handful of exceptions--no matter how torn up about this we are) would like to have things we can participate in, and others less outside than us want to do something as well. That's fine, but I understand Tyka's position on them. Multiple memorials, while they might serve to help the grieving for the various individuals participating in one or two, would be incredibly draining for her. She's not really been public, so add that stress to her grief, and I can see why she doesn't want to be going to a lot of these things. Rather than disappoint some (I attend this one with these people organizing it, but not this one or this one, but I will go to this one), she "supports" all of them, from a distance.

agreed and there is nothing wrong with feeling like he was. There's an intimacy in putting earphones in, turning-off the lights, and just listening to someone "speak to you" for thirty to eighty minutes. You don't have that level of feeling connected to many people in your life, let alone blood relations. Yes, he felt like family to me too. . [Edited 5/13/16 15:51pm]
