Half of the org is never satisfied while the other is never dissapointed...

Longtime member/lurker here. Lurked for years before I signed up. I must apologize in advance for typos, typing on my phone. Just felt like this needed to be heard.

I swear there is very little objectivity here anymore. It's either "Fire Josh, P has finally lost all creativity or (insert album here) is the best thing since The Gold Experience.

I personally dig alot of HitNRun as I did AOA. I'd go so far as to say that Breakdown,Way Back Home and HardRockLover are some of the better P songs in the past 15 years or so. If Breakdown was a Vault track from the 80s, EVERYONE on here would call it one of his 10 best ballads of all time.

At the same time, P like anyone, has filler tracks. And with as much content he puts out,he will have tons of sh*tty songs. Cheesy lyrics and quirky sounds have been part of his whole catalog. Not everything he touches turns to gold.

As far as Josh goes, I love the fact that P is open to letting someone else toy with his sound. It's fresh and different and some of it sounds current. Alot of you guys bitched for years that he needed a producer, now you hate it.

Obviously we all are entitled to our opinion. Mine is just that of a 36 yo tattooed white guy who loves Sinatra and Tupac as much as I do Prince I don't blindly praise or rip apart anything. The fact is more often than not, I enjoy at least a few tracks on each release. Yep even 20Ten and dare I say NewPowerSoul (GASP!!)

You ever think maybe some of us orgers are stuck in 1984 or can't get off the idol worship? Nothing is black or white. . Some purple fellow taught us that years ago, or where you not listening?

Thanks for reading,
Jeremy

I like what I like, you can't say I am never satisfied or never disappointed..

I really dislike RnRLA, Baltimore and other recent releases.

I like very much the new album.. the whole of it..

So different opinions, and mixed positive and or negative.....

Maybe.

But it is just that the other half does not have any standards, is always in awe, cannot think critically or has not grown adult enough despite their age.

It is probably the same part of the crowd that wants to hear purple rain over and over, cannot refrain from chatter during a concert and uses words like 'fam'.

I think people are just expressing their opinions. What makes you think they lack objectivity? Is your opinion the only one properly calibrated with just enough objectivity that it's more fact than opinion?

music is my number one thing... i live and breathe it... it's been how i make my living... i have a studio... play multiple instruments etc

prince is my favourite musician... hands down... so, needless to say, his music is a big deal to me

for a long time i've tried to like what he's been releasing

i'm simply not going to lie to myself anymore

it's frustrating because i know what he's capable of... or at least what i thought he was capable of... maybe he's just not that good anymore

and now his bullshit whining about the industry, and general hypocrisy, is grating on me

his need to sound current, when so much of what is current is lifeless drivel, is grating on me

for me.... he just needs to make a great record... stop being caught up in his own importance and make a great fucking prince record

Given Prince's vast catalog of material, it's usually very telling to me when some random person shows up and criticises Orgers that just don't happen to be feeling Prince's latest batch of pooptoast, using the "stuck in '84" line. bored2

Here's what bothers ME:

Prince died of an overdose of the drug Fentanyl. Of which, it is very highly fucking likely that he never even knew he'd taken.

In reality it's only about 3 people that think he never issues a bad track and around 15 that thinks everything he issues is crap.

No "half" -- lots of people fall in between, lots are Prince-negative or Prince-positive. but they have some nuances and exceptions to their chosen dogma.

Obviously, everyone's opinion about what they like is valid. I do think its inappropriate for someone to insult someone else (or a group of people) for liking something they don't like [or vice versa].

Example -

Orger 1 - "AOA and Plec Elec suck. Prince is just painting by numbers. I'll keep my money."

Orger 2 - "AOA and Plec Elec suck. Prince is just painting by numbers. I'll keep my money. Anyone who likes this bullsh%& must have dropped from Prince's sack. Anybody who likes this crap doesn't know music and should quit worshipping Prince."

Some people would say example 2 is well within their rights of stating their opinion. I agree, but the insults really are unnecessary. Everyone is different, but I can't imagine you just walk around in "real life" hurling insults at people who like what you don't like.

Example - (Starbucks)

Customer 1 - "Let me have a Salted Caramel Mocha Frappuccino. I don't like the Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino at all. It does not taste good."

Orger 2 (within earshot of Customer 1) - "Let me have a Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino. Any moron that orders the Salted Caramel Mocha don't know sh*@ about coffee anyway. That crap isn't even good. That tastes like piss and diarrhea."

lol I tickle myself... Anyway, example(s) 2 is how a lot of the discussions on the org end up in contentious debates.

I agree with some of your points such as your comment on The Breakdown:

NewPowerToad said:

I believe this and a number of other recent tracks are as good as some of the lauded "Vault" tracks.

What I have seen over time is how albums usually become more appreciated over time. I remember Come being released and it was absolutely slaughtered! Many orgers now rate it as one of their fave albums.

It is interesting to read people's views on The Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhouse now they have been released on Tidal. Again at the time, they were universally disliked and the High project was described as his most uninspired ever! People are rediscovering these albums and first time listeners are exclaiming how they can't believe they missed these amazing works of art first time around.

Maybe the general feeling is that as the quality of his work deteriorates (in many people's opinions) then what we thought was poor at the time is actually good in comparison..............or it could just be that we appreciate his music more over time?

Jeremy, the original poster, HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!

Dude, you are spot on with your proginal post.

Prince has made so much music and put it out yet, we go through the same crap with some of these people on here. I lurked for years because i just couldn't believe how silly some people are so i just didn't post. But i have just recently started to post.

The bitching and whining on here is just unbelievable, then they go out and listen or buy the album anyways. They buy the next one, and the next one, and the next one. They log onto Prince.org just to complain about....Prince. Dumbfounding.

If you don't like it, then you don't like it. That's totally okay. Your choice. But if you haven't liked anythiing since LoveSexy, then you're a crazy person for still listening to, and bitching about every album since. Get Off the Boat!

Jeremy, you spoke the truth brother!

Serious response:

All forums in the world attract skewed comments, why would somebody sign up and post something neutral and bland? The psychology of forums is rooted in people seeking approval from others - you gain this by taking a 'side' on whatever forum you're on. Someone will agree with you.

This is exacerbated by the psychological effect of people in agreement strengthening their views as a result of gaining approval - so both people become even more extreme than their original position purely as a result of groupthink.

In other words, you're right. This is not an accurate representation of the real world. It's a forum and all forums display the most skewed comments and reward posters subconsciously become even more extreme in their views than they originally expected.

Go back to "lurking" if you can't handle conversation with humans passionate about their favorite performer. Maybe join a support group or build a sand castle instead. Shout-out to all the "lurkers"! We don't see you! Hit that cancel response button next time and wipe the nervous sweat off your brow.

We don't go back to "lurking", we go back to our LIVES.

We don't spend our lives bitching about someone else's music.

You don't like Prince's shit, then make your own and don't listen to Prince's.

You can say you don't like his music, but when you just troll the message boards to bitch and complain to those who do, then you're just a little pathetic.

You look forward to being the antagonist because u have nothing else to do.

I'm starting to think Prince figured out the "hatechu" marketing scheme before Mayweather figured it out. People will actually pay money to hate what you do.

I think some of the disappointment with fams with this new release is due to the expectation that was set early on . I believe the band stated pre-release "this is a album for the hardcore Prince fans" or something to that affect.

Its an album for a new fan base not a classic or funky Prince album the fams expected especially coming right off of the release of STARE. I'm not sure if there was a script or if that quote came off the top but it came from someone who doesnt really know what the real fams would have expected, not their fault though.

#PRINCEarmy Be gentle guys. New music is better than no music. The press stories said experimental , expectations should have been met accordingly.

Amen Mo Betta!! I feel like what you said was in my head and came out on what you typed. I miss Prince just being Prince and not worried about trying to be something else, or "fit in" with what the media or today's flavor of the week says are the "cool kids". And yes, his whining all the time is grating on me too. Always hard to keep hearing all of this crap from "ga-jillionaires" who have earned, but also been afforded the ability to develop and sell/share their craft and reap so much from this oh so terrible country. Miss him just appearing to have some fun and not constantly be on one crusade or another, or continuously try and force "new proteges" down our throats.

First Respect to original poster... he has been here since 2003.

I posted a review in the thread on the album.

For me I always hope for the best with any prince project. I just feel the % that I love vs really dislike has reversed over the years.

Tracks like dig you better dead or right the wrong were shitty to me in 94, but same december, zanalee, dolphin, endorphine machine, days of wild, and other 93-94 outtakes were incredible.

I remember the AMA awards with billy jack bitch into 319 into Eyehate u. Dolphin on letterman these moved me emotionally.

This album is really weak with little true boundary pushing stuff. No amazing drum programming or synth horns, or monster guitar, or thought provoking lyrics.

This comes across like 93 game boys stuff that I panned then also.

Let's hope the tidal thing unearths an outtake or some project we knew nothing of that moves all of us.

Like a perfect outtake version of no light in a large room 86 etc.

Music is the best...

I guess what I find interesting and kind of sad

is that the people who continually put Prince down and say he's washed up, a has-been,

come back to PRINCE.org over and over again in the PRINCE forum to discuss how awful he is. The general theme is he hasn't been great since the 1990's - some think the 1980's- that was over 20 yrs ago.

If you think he's so rotten, disappointing, washed up, whatever...why the fuck do you come back here over and over again? You have to be one sad, cynical, malcontent to whine and whine about something you seem sooo convinced of- and have been for years.

Move on, find some other artist or cause to complain about - there are thousands that literally suck ass. But you don't. You are a sad little person with nothing to share but negativity and the desire to hear yourself complain.

There...there's my one complaint. Count me part of your troll army for one day. Then tomorrow find a new passion.

my question would be....why do some fans care so much about what other fans think?

If *YOU* like his new album, then that's all that matters.Play it loud and knock yourself out lol

Why concern yourself with "fans who haven't liked anything since Lovesexy"? Just enjoy the new music and disregard any negative opinions that you disagree with.

When you come to any message board, you're gonna see alot of different thoughts and opinions. If you can't handle that, maybe you shouldn't be here.

As I stated in my original post, this is just my opinion. Which is no more or less valid than anyone else on this board. My point was to try and understand why the vocal majority sways so heavy to one side or the other. And yes I realize the "vocal majority" will always be the most passionate by default and the loudest. As far as Bart goes, I totally respect your perspective regardless of whether or not I agree with it. I just find it hard to believe that most of us who claim to enjoy him as an artist enough to post on a message board about him, can't find anything redeemable about any of his recent output.I saw Prince live the first night at the Welcome 2 Chicago show, where he did not pick up a guitar for more than half of a song. I was very critical and disappointed in that, until I heard the issues he had with the guitar tech and the sound in the United Center. But I swear, he hasn't put a f*cking guitar down since that next night. So as a fan who enjoys more of his guitar heavy tracks, I dig the shit out of the rock stuff lately. For what it's worth, my three fav Prince albums are PRINCE, The Gold Experience and probably N.E.W.S., and I think Dirty Mind & Controvery are vastly overrated as a whole, but as Bart pointed out, I'm obviously deaf to have such opinions on what I enjoy. :roll:And as much as I love Rubin, I can pretty much guarantee that after 1 hr in the studio with Prince, he would walk the f*ck out due to frustration. Not enough $ in the world to put up with that when you're arguably the greatest producer of this generation. Don't worry, I'll go back to the dark shadows of lurkville. Way more entertaining watching grown folks bitch about the here and now and reminisce over the good old days when Prince used curse words and talked about getting Head from his Sister. And yes Bart, I'll get off your lawn.
