It doesn't matter, Originals is not about Apples, Jill or anyone else. Yes Prince is dead, but that doesn't mean we need to focus on the people who were there when he recorded his songs. These people act so damn entitled. We can focus on Prince without the associates.

Who’s saying they should be the entire focus? My point is, if you are going to have a listening party, and probably discussion/ Q & A, it would make sense to include the people who contributed to the recordings at the time the songs were recorded. This is why they were interviewed by the press. A panel with Peggy McCreary, Susan Rogers and the rest would have been great and appropriate for this release. They were all spending many hours everyday with Prince during this time, and that is a fact.

The problem is that they always want to be included, they only care about themselves and their place in the purple universe now that Prince is gone, they all try to make the first place. It's really getting annoying.

You are just making a blanket statement that is not true. If there is a release or event focused on the Purple Rain/early-mid 80’s time frame (which is what we’ve had so far), then yes, it makes sense that they would want to participate. If it’s a release or event focused on Prince’s 90’s music and beyond I don’t think they would complain about not being invited to participate.
*
The associates directly involved with the recordings should participate. If/when they release something from Prince and the NPG I don’t think you will get complaints from these folks about not participating.

And what about Ava‘s documentary? Didn’t she say some associates were pissed that they didn’t get interviewed for the Netflix Docu? There was a reason they were not invited to the event and they should just accept it.

These people have been the reference and source for numerous Biographies and interviews since the late 80’s, because they were THERE and recording with Prince. All of the valid and reputable books include their input.
*
If Ava opted not to include key associates of that time in her documentary then that is a shame. I’m sure there is a reason for the exclusion from the listening party, however, it doesn’t mean it’s a valid one.

I don’t think so, because AP News published the article including interviews with Apollonia, Susannah, Peggy M , etc. and also pictures of A and S in front of Prince’s giant picture at WB in LA.
*
The snub for the listening party seems to have come from Tidal and/or the people connected with organizing that event.

There was at the very least some collaboration between the two https://www.thecurrent.or...-originals . It makes perfect sense to me given the timeframe of that music.

That would make a lot of sense. I think those who weren't invited could have either been a positive or a negative. Yes, they were there and could add details previously unknown.
Otoh, Apples & Jill seem to stir the pot & I can understand why they wouldn't be invited for this very reason.
Did they invite Sinead? The Bangles (especially Susanna), etc? I mean if they invited Sinead & not Jill & Apples then WOW but I've not heard of them attending or being invited so...

Sinead or Susanna Hoffs?? Why would they invite them? They didn’t record WITH Prince. They were just given his songs to use. It has been written that Prince never liked Sinead’s version of NC2U, which is why he “took it back” during the Nude tour and began to perform it live from that point forward. She completely changed the sound of the song - not saying it’s bad, but it’s very different.
*
I really doubt Apollonia or Jill would “stir the pot” at a listening party, which is focused on the music - not their personal relationship with Prince.

Yes I know they didn't record them "with" him. And I gave a possible reason. To someone else's post

Prince wrote and composed these songs, they are Prince's no matter who sang them, whether they sang them with or without Prince. The main focus here should be Prince and not these women who are stirring the pot.

You keep missing my point though. Prince is no longer here to discuss recording those songs - not that he would have anyway - but these people actually WERE there with him during the original recordings of the songs, and can provide details and answer questions about the process.
*
No one is arguing about the fact that these are “Prince’s songs”. My comments are just expressing that it would make sense to have at least some of these 80’s associates who were involved present at an event like this. It’s like having an event to talk about and watch the Purple Rain concerts and not including anyone from the band. Yes, Prince was always the main focus of those shows, but the band was there performing with him.

I think Phaedra was talking to Tidal's lawyers and not the Estate lawyers in the beginning. She kept asking to not be held liable. There is speculation Phaedra was providing Tidal with the Prince's catalogue after he passed.

I'm glad she mentioned she had severe depression. I could tell something was off. Now, I'm sorry to say but I don't believe a word she is saying. Prince had plans, many plans but I doubt there were with ...Appolonia. He had mentionned plans with 3rd eye, with Judith Hill, with Welton, and many young musicians he was fond of mentoring and they were evolving and took pleasure in seeing them grow.

Apples is the past and she has to move on before her depression turns to delusion if it hasn't already.

That said, I look forward to Prince's memoir in October. I think this one will sell fast and well. The only Truth is his. Nobody speaking on his behalf has any right to claim owning his Truth.

I would not expect to find any “truths” from Prince past his childhood, as we know he did not get that far with his own writing for the Memoir sad I was so hoping he had made it through the 80’s.

Or perhaps Prince was planning to finally finish the 1985 “mini movie” that Apollonia 6 worked on (featuring videos from their album)? To be included as a bonus DVD in a Apollonia 6 remaster? hmmm

I’m not buying that she had severe depression, so severe she thought she wouldn’t make it (per one of the interviews). What does that mean, she was contemplating suicide? Her FB and IG are filled with pics the last 3 years enjoying her life, gallery openings, concerts, galas, Dodger games, HAwaii and surfing. Just 4 months after April 21 she was front and center at a PR screening and panel in LA. Custom dress and freshened up face. Then she was at First Avenue with The Revolution for the 3 nights of shows in September. I think her nose got out of joint when she wasn’t included in the October 2016 Tribute show. All her interviews Just a ploy for sympathy and boost upcoming book sales.

Yep. I think the problem is she is not and never was a musician. She was a young actor hired to make a movie and after the movie was over Prince tried to make her into a musician with not much success. So amongst all the hundreds of musicians that worked with him through the years, she was only acting like one (couldn’t really dance either).

Yes, she was never a singer or performer. She was a model and trying to make it as an actress when she landed the role in PR. Lisa, Jill and Susannah all helped with adding vocals on the A6 record. Brenda was the only strong singer in that trio. I think Blue Limousine is the best song on the record and that was Brenda and Susannah.
*
That being said, she saved the PR film. They found her at the 11th hour, and I think she did well with her character and she gave a campy and fun vibe to contrast the more serious and dark family scenes with Prince. She also spent a lot of time with Prince from Sept ‘83 - ‘85, and they remained friends.
*
So, she is significant for that time period in the Prince camp.
