Mayte Garcia

O.k., guys I'm not trying to be mean or anything but Mayte has been obsessively posting about Prince since he died. Mayte and Prince were married and divorced years ago. They didn't even have contact with each other for years. As a matter of fact Mayte tried to come back to Prince but he didn't want her. It's interesting how she's acting like a grieving widow

It doesn't strike me as odd at all. He was a huge part of her life and during formative years even. Plus, the loss they experienced together and that she has to live with still. . .

I mean, I look at myself, I never even met the man and I have thought about him everyday since April 21st ,spend all of my spare time reading about him, listening to him, his words and his music. And a lot of people here have too so IMO it only stand to reason that Mayte would be overwhelmed with what has happened and react in such a way.

We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams. . .

Oh, you mean exactly like the people here? She's got a right to grieve, quit fucking with her. She's behaving no worse than many of the orgers, and with far more reason.

Yeah for real. I feel so bad for people who knew him personally. The video Jill Jones posted choked me up for just that reason.

They sure had fun. My heart goes out to the entire Purple Family.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Respectfully - it's none of your business. That post is gossipy, and flame bait.

Anyone's grieving process is their own. Mayte has a different history with Prince than 99% of the Org (the 1% being Manuela, and even her experience is different as Prince's 2nd wife). Who is anyone to judge how she, or anyone, grieves over the loss of Prince? How arrogant.

Blakbear is right - she's doing the same thing people here are doing.

Your post is highly disrespectful to someone Prince obviously loved very, very much. You, nor I, have zero room to criticize a woman's grief of her ex-husband's passing.

My high school sweetheart (from 30 yrs ago) just passed and there's something about the finality of death that triggers old feelings-- at least from my experience. I'm sure she's in pain.

Show your heart to me.

I can't imagine how I would react if my first boyfriend died. Let alone my first husband who I shared a child with. Who I lost a child with. And who just so happened to be Prince. No I can't imagine her sense of loss and pain.

I follow Mayte. I love how she wears her heart on her sleeve. She seems like a genuine, kind-hearted person. As others have said, she's not doing anything more than other people (who have never even met him).

But Mayte was selling Prince's stuff in eBay when he died. She was also about to write a tell all book about him and for you folks saying that I don't know what happened between them: I know someone who worked for Prince for nearly 30 years. I probably know more about Prince than you do but I'm not going to tell all of his business

I think people have taken it upon themselves to harass you for you stating something harmless.

The difference is that we are Prince supporters. He formed many of our lives without us actually having a relationship with him. In that respect, we respect those in his life. However, it is clear this user isn't bashing the woman at hand. She is sitting the obvious and doing so because she is capitalizing off of his death after not being with him for 17 years. Also, his death has unfortunately correlated into a way for her to live in a dimension of proposing the idea to his fans, and onlookers that she was his wife, still.

I don't think this poster had set out to hurt anyone, no need to swear at them. We're fans so of course many of us "obsess". I don't think she's bullying MAYTE or the idea that she is in pain because it is understandable. However, it's not the Mayte show and his death isn't/shouldn't be a way to seek enticement or attention. Grieving is one thing, attention-seeking with falsities and delusion is one thing. I'm not judging, either way. But I'm afraid his death doesn't have anything to do with her alone, and I personally refuse to make it to the Mayte Pity Party currently being held 12/7 and located on her Instagram. He loved many women and I am sure they are grieving just as hard, more understandably so as they actually had connection to him over the last 20 years in reality, not in their heads.

No need for anyone to call the poster names or reverse bully them to defend a woman very clearly distraught and suffering from a mental health issue like ptsd/depression. This is Maytes way of coping and I personally hope she gets the support and help she needs. But I don't think focusing on her or her posts is helpful because she's in denial. Prince was Prince before and after her. I'm sure she is going through a tough time as Manuela Testolini. I don't agree that people are pedastalizing Mayte and making her grieving process or atrention process seem more sincere than others because that's ludicrous.

Anyhow, I happen to agree with you on many of your points but hey.. We must pray for any of his pastcomrades and current comrades/lovers because a loss is a loss.

The more you explain yourself, the more people will find reason to harass you about being a "bully". Your points are very valid, my advice is to not let it bother you. While it may be partially for atrention, much of it is because of her mental health and past. People defend her because they usually like the idea of her with Prince.

I am not against her, and I am sure she is a sweet lady. I don't believe marketing on the title "Prince's ex wife," is something to be proud of or fair. He was married for a long while after her and I believe if she gets that respect, then the other ex wife should too.

She's been very vocal about her relationship with Prince in writing and television, so it's not warped media. It's come from her mouth. I'm not sure why she sold his clothes or kept posting about him, it was stalker like and obsessive. But that again is all due to the lack of being able to move on from her past with Prince, and him clearly doing so/evolving. As I said, I wish her the best (as well as all of the others) and hope she can get some help.

I think it's best to pay little attention to her antics and photos.

Thank You. Some people just have emotions and no logic in their actions. They don't think before they react. Before Prince died Mayte was not talking about how much she loved him. As a matter of fact she was trying to get rid of his stuff and about to write a book about him. Now that he's dead she's obsessively posting about him, goung on and on about how he was the love of her life.It just seems phony to me

Trust me, I don't know these folks on here and I could care less what they think of me. Prince had his marriage to Mayte annulled so technically they weren't even married. I think that Mayte is exploiting Prince. She went to a PETA event today that honored Prince. Damaris Lewis and Prince's family weren't there. I don't even see or hear from them anymore. Mayte just seems like she's doing the most

They both are. I don't understand it because they are ex wives. How do they think Damaris feels? There's a reason why they weren't allowed at Prince's family memorial

If you read the story, Mayte is a vegan and a PETA supporter who helped develop the project. I've never seen Damaris or any other Prince associate/family member express support for PETA or veganism, so why should they be there? PETA is not a universal cause.

oh, and Mayte has stated in 2007, that she never wanted the divorced and as far as she was concerned, she was still married( catholic thing). If u seen the TV show, u would know that she started selling his stuff coz the people on the show was making fun of her 4 not letting go. she decided to sell the stuff in order to move on from Prince. she was holding on to his stuff for many years. She uses the proceeds 4 charity 4 animal rights. Prince is also an activist so I think it works out for the good at least.

If she's a PETA supporter why would she use Prince's name?

You still couldn't be bothered to read the story, eh? I'm going to be nice and copy/paste it for you:

Prince would have turned 58 next week. To mark the occasion, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) is releasing a free download of his pro-vegan song Animal Kingdom, which he recorded for the charity nearly two decades ago.

The track– which is available to stream now via the Peta website – is a stripped-back, spacey acoustic number. His voice distorted, Prince sings the lyrics: “No member of the animal kingdom ever did a thing to me / It’s why I don’t eat red meat or white fish / Don’t give me no blue cheese / We’re all members of the animal kingdom / Leave your brothers and sisters in the sea.”

The late musician had been a long-time supporter of animal rights, and donated the song to Peta for its 20th anniversary in 1999. Mayte Garcia, Prince’s ex-wife, who is working alongside the charity, has said that they would mark his birthday every year, encouraging Prince fans to make a “veg pledge” and go vegan in support of his legacy.

“Prince didn’t want to celebrate birthdays, but to live life, to elevate and educate to the next level of enlightenment,” said Garcia. “My mission every 7 June is not only to celebrate his birth, but also with Peta to remember this man by making 7 June a day where Prince fans go vegan to see how much better they feel and to honour his kind legacy.

“Prince said ‘compassion is an action word with no boundaries’, and that’s our message with this campaign, which everyone can participate in.”

Earlier this week, an autopsy report showed Prince’s death in April was from an accidental overdose of the prescription painkiller fentanyl. The results are said to have surprised friends and family members, who said Prince avoided alcohol and drugs and maintained a healthy lifestyle.
