Justin Trudeau "blackface" issue the double standard!

Justin Trudeau donned blackface at least twice. When he got caught he acted like he was appalled. But appalled at what? He knew he did it. He had to have known that it could come out. I think he was upset that he got caught. And then ONLY after being directly asked if he had done it before did he admit that he had.

In the wake of Ralph Northam and the two Jimmies got caught doing the same thing and getting away with it. Sarah Silverman lost a job (she alleges) over he used of blackface and Megan Kelly got fired for simply not understanding why it always racist.

What is the deal?

Justin can not claim "it was okay back then" because it damn sure wasn't.

Do I want him out of office? No, I do not care. (unlike some I do not let a person politics drive my get rid of them by any means necessary).

But what I do notice is how some want to say that this or that Republican is racist or whatever and not being outraged that they are in office or not supporting them being taken out of office yet where are they on this? It is a clear double standard. (And I waited several days to post this: I had more faith that some liberal would do so.)

you do understand trudeau is a canadian politician, and we almost never discuss canadian politics here, right?

i know youre trying really hard to wedge this into your partisan agenda, but... trudau has nothing to do with about 99% of us

Sarah Silverman describes the current climate as one of ‘righteousness porn. I couldn't agree more

"If you’re not on board, if you say the wrong thing, if you had a tweet once, everyone is throwing the first stone. It’s a perversion. It’s really, “Look how righteous I am and now I’m going to press refresh all day long to see how many likes I get in my righteousness"

one has to wonder how much of her distastes of this is due to being one of the offenders? I have no reason to assume she is not holding herself to a different standard that she would some others.

What double standard? It is being discussed all around the world if this means the end of Justin Trudeau. He may well loose the election in a month's time.

She's absolutely right. Apparently people aren't allowed to make mistakes now. One bad joke can end the career of a comedian. If a man asks a woman out he risks being labelled as a deviant. Some idiot paints his face black and he could lose his job. No amount of apology is good enough.

which is what I have been saying. it is folly to go back in time like this. Even when it happens to someone I think that is pushing dangerous policies...

but if Boris Johnson had this happen... would it be days later before it was posted here (and with the conclusion that it is not a career ending issue)

I don't know how long it would take if it was Boris but I'd guess that it probably wouldn't. Although, having said that, Boris Johnson has done and said some awful things that were never posted about on here so who knows?

Out of interest though, why would you mention Boris Johnson?

The title of the forum doesn't say "American" Politics & Religion.

Anyway, Trudeau seems to really love Indian culture and people to the point where it seems like he wants to be one of them, so this doesn't surprise me at all. lol

I'm not sure when this happened, but it was likely at a time when people could do stuff like this and if it didnt' seem to have a malicious context, people let it slide. It would be the height of irony though if he were to lose his job over this.

if the voters are so motivated. it would be foolish for his supporters to turn on him (as much as I want him gone)... who knows. But I agree it would be funny if he was forced out by his own kind.

Nah, the height of irony would be Trudeau losing his job over something that happened 20 years ago, while Trump keeping his job even though he extorted the Ukranian president two months ago.

That. That is exactly what I am talking about.

You don’t know much of anything about him or Canadian politics. you’re just so hyper-partisan that you want him out only because he’s not a conservative.

Meanwhile the sleazy and extraordinarily corrupt conservative president of the country you lived in arguably committed an act of treason, and you couldn’t care less, cause he plays for your team.

So is liberalism, sadly.

And last time I checked, Justin Trudeau has been the leader of Canada's Liberal Party for more than six years.

Only had every right to start a thread about Trudeau, thereby further dispelling the ridiculous notion that liberals can't be racists. Sorry that your attempt to shut down the thread because it's not to your liking failed.

And he's 100% correct in stating that there's a clear double standard when it comes to the actions of conservatives vs liberals, and how the exact same behaviour is often treated completely differently based on political preference.
