The U.S. is being dismantled.......

....and Congress is sitting around with their thumbs up their own ass.

What is it going 2 take for the citizens 2 stand up 4 themselves?

$22 trillion dollar deficeit.

$1.5 trillion dollar cut for the 1%

The US spends more money on prisons than education k-12.

The most inept leader in U.S. History.

What the hell is wrong with this country?

D.C. is almost completely useless.

It really is mind boggling.

Agree Graycap. The dismantling is moving faster and faster too. It's really scary.

We've been sold a bill of goods about the so called "free market," tech, and the internet & social media and letting the rich do whatever they want because Americans are endlessly optimistic that someday they too will be rich. American culture is broken and it'll take some major changes to fix it. Maybe it'll get fixed but more than likely, we're on the long slide down.

What a disgrace.

It's pathetic that the grand experiment doesn't look like it's going to last even 300 years.

You are correct. I think that America is a victim of her own success. I find that too many Americans are filled with pride, arrogance, and self righteousness, and it's destroying the our country.

Many, many answers to those questions but they all begin and end with...voting.

In this case, more Americans voted for Hillary Clinton than voted for Donald Trump. But, about 65,000 fat, lazy, cheese-eating, noodle-sucking, parasitic, booger-licking, fingernail-biting, athletes-foot-having wastes of good food in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan voted for Obama in 2012 but were too lethargic to get off their Barcaloungers and vote for Clinton in 2016. Had these losers just committed the act of voting like they did 4 years previous, Clinton wins those states and wins the presidency.

So once again, it all comes down to voting.

And say these losers HAD voted and Hillary Clinton was elected. What in your list would have changed? Well...

1. The deficit would not be as big because Hillary Clinton's tax plan raised taxes on the 1%. There's no guarantee it would have passed Congress, but she sure would have tried. On the spending side though, she absolutely would not have spent on the military like Trump has done. Furthermore, Clinton would not have enacted those idiotic tariffs, which have added $$$billions to both our fiscal and our trade deficits

2. There would have been no tax cut for the 1%

3. I don't know how the prison-to-school spending ratio would have been affected, but I do know we'd not have an anti-education Secretary of Education like we have in Betsy DeVos

4. We would have had a very, very qualified president who knew her way around Washington D. C. and the world. Agree or disagree with her policies but there's no argument that she'd have projected a far better image of competence and quality on behalf of America

So to answer your final question - What the hell is wrong with this country? - there are two points:

A. We're ALWAYS going to have idiots who'll vote for dolts like Trump. That will never change, and the only way to keep them in the minority and powerless is

B. Vote. If those life-sucking, Kardashian-watching, Schlitz-drinking, no-turn-signal-using, Marlboro-smoking idiots in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan had voted in the same numbers they did in 2012, we'd not be having this particular conversation.

We do have a free market, such as it is. But it's not totally "free". Any market must have rules, which are sometimes known by the Republican curse word "regulations". Even Adam Smith agreed that markets need regulation in order to make them fair.

There are plenty of rich people who made it on their own. Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg didn't come from the ruling class, and neither did Warren Buffet. I could name you 1,000 millionaires just in Houston, Texas who made it because they were smart, worked hard, and.............

......got an education. In fact, they just never stopped learning, whether it was from a school book, an industry paper, or life experience.

The problem you identified which is separate from all that is that the GOP has convinced far too many people that the best economic plan is trickle-down/supply-side theory. Or in other words, "If we just make rich people richer, they'll take care of us!" That is the Republican economic plan and has been for four decades.

It has NEVER worked. EVER.

But see? It all goes back to education in this case. It's not enough to throw pithy slogans at those who think all our problems will be solved by making rich people richer. We have to educate them on solid, real-world, readily-available historical examples of how that kind of economic plan has failed them every time we've tried it.

It failed them when Reagan did it.

It failed them when George W. Bush did it.

It's failing them under Donald Trump.

Supply-side economics is an historically-proven failure. This is not an opinion; it's a fact supported by incontrovertible historical evidence.
