I'm not an American and I'm not "pimping" him either. I just have two questions:
Isn't Bernie getting a little too old?
Isn't he too left wing for most Americans?

That's the wrong question and deflects from the real issue, which isn't about morals or philosophy, or ideology.

It's about affiliation.

Senator Sanders is seeking the nomination of a national party to which he does not belong and has chosen not to join.

He certainly affiliates with the Democratic Party though. I think he believes his core values are closest to theirs, so he chooses to run his campaign on that platform. Makes sense, because how many times has a candidate not affiliated with either the D’s or the R’s won the presidency in the last hundred years?

Exactly. This election is way too important to play around. Not having skin in this game, it seems more of an intellectual exercise for you.

OK then, that's great. But let's get the facts right about what can actually be done by next year, and why. I wouldn't go on political forums and tell other countries about their politics without knowing what is actually possible, but that's just me.

I have explained my US voting strategy over the last 40 years to you more than once nd33. Including my reasons for changes I've made.

I feel like Bernie and Tulsi are the best hope we have for turning the tide a bit here.

Is it frustrating that so much of what goes on here affects you when you're that far away? Serious question, not being sarcastic.

1) it's definitely his last chance but he's not too old, judge him by his interviews, his lucidity, his actions, not by his number.
2) Massive leftward swing amongst American youth, check out how well he polls amongst the under 35's. The ultra wealthy and the seated lawn-mower class who don't believe in or simply don't care about climate change won't vote for him it's true, he shouldn't even be trying to win their vote.

Sorry to those who are offended that we have opinions on your country, I take your point that it's not our business and believe me, i'd rather the USA had zero influence over my life but, well, talk to your congressman about where your country is putting military bases.

Your only point so far has been that he's not part of the Democratic party, no? I think that's a fairly petty reason to not nominate someone. What is your voting policy, I've missed your explanations before, even just copy and paste an old post.

Yet he still wants to run as one and needs the support of lifelong Dems to do so.

As if loyalty or affiliation have anything to do with qualification? (Trump wasn’t associated with one either yet he still ended up ~trumping~ Ted Cruz & Rubio.) Sanders introduced Medicare for all – a solid plan to arguably the most pressing problem in the nation. When Dems were scared of the word ‘socialist’ Sanders first starting using it to introduce his policy. It is no longer a dirty word among Dems Because of Sanders. Forget the official party, Sanders has been the one who's been shaping what Democratic ideology should be for decades. Now, if anything Democrats need Sanders just as much as Sanders needs the party.

[Edited 2/21/19 12:33pm]

Once again, qualifications and platform are not the point. This is a threshold political issue which is pretty elementary to understand.

The guy wants the top slot of a party he refuses to join.

It's fairly obvious why that will be an issue with the party faithful that he needs to win the nomination, and how that will become a liability in the current cycle, featuring a deeper field of likeable candidates who are drifting leftward anyway.

The point is people here are not seeing this "only point" is the same problem that cost him in 2016. Had he officially joined the party even during the 2016 cycle, he'd have had a better chance.

The Dems are looking to marry. Bernie still just wants to be friends with benefits.

Surely you can see how that's going to be a problem with the party activists he needs to carry the day, and how other candidates will exploit this.

If he officially joined the party and got his followers to register as Dems he'd win this thing in a walk. But he's trying to have it both ways, and no one else has pulled that off, and I doubt he will.

I'm not American so I can't vote, but I don't think Bernie stands a chance. Nothing against the man, but the Dems need someone way more charismatic than Bernie if they want any chance of beating that ass-wipe Trump.

My point is you said on the voter thread you don't do primaries 'cause you're an independent and it's rigged anyway.

How to get lesser known candidates into the debates

Hi Lovejunky!

The part about needing a certain amount of money to even be in the debate? I am for no outside money in elections like other countries have.

21 months out is too early for anything to be in focus. The good thing is people are running. It's hard for me to intellectualize right now about this election. We need this vote to get out Trump and what calls themselves the Republican Party no matter what.

Poppys,

Its not a certain amount of money, its a number of DONATIONS.

65,000 Unique donations.

So the AMOUNT can be as little as $1.00

but 65,000 people have to show support for that candidate in order for them to appear on the debate stage...

This is a relatively NEW thing Im assuming...

I wish I could contribute but since Im not in thE US obviously I cant..

I DO want Tulasi to be present on that Debate stage..

I want to hear the policitcs of the lesser known candidates too...

Oh gosh, sorry. One more kind of candidate/voter supression - not for it.

100% focused on getting Trump out. Not sure who can beat him right now. Definitely not sold on Bernie although if he got the nom, of course I would vote for him. Gabbard cannot beat Trump. Still hoping by some miracle he won't be running but that is unlikely.
