He would say I am 'In a relationship'.... I say I am a cross between 'Best friend with Benefits' and a 'Mistress' since he is only legally separated.

He hates that I call him married since he keeps telling me he considers himself single.

Oh well, I guess that's why they have 'Its complicated' on there. lol

hmmm

This is the second time that I've come across this issue. I don't understand why that would matter.

Isn't a Separation - legal or otherwise - pretty much a dissolution of the marriage??? question

I mean, you're either married or you're not.

IMO, once you Separate, then you are living separate lives...emotionally AND physically.

So, IMO, you'd be a "Mistress" ONLY if he were still living as a married man.

I understand that some people separate as a trial period in the hopes of saving the marriage. If that's the case, then there's still carte blanche to go out and tonk b/c you are on a "break".

shrug

To me separated is NOT single because if I wanted to marry him I couldn't. He simply isn't free to commit fully to me.

Another woman has claim on him, and it is misleading to present yourself as single to someone you meet.

Let it go already, divorced is single, not separated. I am pretty sure he would take issue with me being married to another guy. wink

I see your point.

But still though, once separated there should be no "stigma" on going out and getting some.

UNLESS, of course, the separation is presented by one party as a "temporary" break for "breathing room" under the pretense of maintaining fidelity and working towards repairing a failing relationship...with completely opposite intentions.

I guess I'm selfconfident, trustworthy, trustful and respectful enough not to have to label any of my "relationships". Every relationship is different, every one is unique, every one is to be respected as what it is and, most of all, every healthy relationship changes from day to day.

FWB I guess. She's not married, but I know she has somewhat if a commitment to someone else. If one is married, I won't mess with her unless their dude is aware. She's not married but does have the other persons name tattooed on her. shrug What can you do...ya know?

Marriage?...commitment?...loyalty?...
